There’s no U.S. Open Cup magic without a deep run from a team of spirited amateurs. This year, Paul Caligiuri’s Orange County FC (NPSL) picked up where NTX Rayados, FC Golden State Force and Christos FC left off in the 2017 and 2018 installments of the 106-year-old competition. Led by the ultra-talented striker Blake Frischknecht and the wily mind of their coach – who also happens to be a legend of American soccer – OCFC pulled off big Cupsets in the Second and Third Round of #USOC2019 over USL Championship sides Orange County SC and Las Vegas Lights. Their reward is a date with Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) – twice winners of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and royalty from the top-tier of pro soccer in the States.
