ussoccer.com: Tell us a little bit about your experience with the U-17 Men’s Youth National Team. Do you have any favorite moments or memories from that time?

AZ: Probably some of the best moments I’ve had were in the U-17 Residency Program. That built up to the Nike Friendlies and from there, that built up to the U-17 World Cup in Chile, and it was all just sharing moments with the guys that I played with and who are now playing at the senior level. Guys like Christian (Pulisic), Weston (McKennie), Tyler (Adams), Haji (Wright), a good amount of those guys. Those were some of my favorite moments.

ussoccer.com: It’s been a long journey to get to where you are. What does it mean to you to get your first call-up with the U.S. Men’s National Team?
Ha sido un camino largo para llegar a donde estás. ¿Qué significa para ti ser convocado al primer equipo por primera vez?
AZ: It’s exciting and I’m very happy. It’s been a while since I’ve worn this shirt but I’m excited and trying to take advantage of any opportunities I get, and hopefully it all goes well.

ussoccer.com: How has growing up with two cultures – Mexican and American – shaped you as a person and as a player?
Como fue tu experiencia creciendo con dos culturas – la mexicana y la estadounidense – y como te formó como persona y jugador?
AZ: I love it. My parents and my whole family are from Mexico, but living in both sides and experiencing both cultures, you get to see and appreciate the differences that they have, but I love all of it. The way we live things, the food, in both the States and Mexico; it’s pretty amazing and I enjoy it to the max, honestly.
Me encanta. Mis padres y toda mi familia son de México, pero vivir en ambos lados y vivir las dos culturas te permite ver y apreciar las diferencias entre las dos, pero todo eso me encanta. La manera en la que vivimos las cosas, la comida, en ambos Estados Unidos y México; es increíble y honestamente lo disfruto al máximo.
