Division II Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC are officially through to the Third Round of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This development follows the Friday, March 10 announcement that Rochester New York FC will not take part in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season.

MLS NEXT Pro announced that the club -- formerly known as the Rochester Rhinos and who famously won the Open Cup in 1999 -- had decided to cease operations.

The Pittsburgh USL Championship club, who were drawn to play Rochester NY FC in the Second Round on April 5 at their home of Highmark Stadium, will be recorded 1-0 winners via forfeit.

The matter will be referred to the Open Cup Adjudication & Discipline Panel per U.S. Soccer policy. 

Pittsburgh’s opponent in the Third Round is not yet known. It will be determined, along with all of the other Third-Round fixtures, via an Official Draw on Thursday, April 6.
