After opening the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup with victories over Denmark and Nigeria, the U.S. Women’s National Team clinched its spot atop Group A with a 3-0 win over Korea DPR on June 27, 1999 at Foxboro Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Head coach Tony DiCicco, a Connecticut native coaching the team close to home, made several changes to the starting lineup for the third and final group stage match, with Sara Whalen, Tiffany Roberts, Tisha Venturini and Shannon MacMillan making their first starts of the tournament.
