CHICAGO (Feb. 19, 2025) – U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team head coach Diego Burato has called up 18 players to take part in the team’s upcoming training camp from Feb. 21-March 2 in San Jose, Costa Rica. The training camp will encompass a historic milestone for the Futsal WNT, as the team will play its first-ever international matches, facing Costa Rica on Feb. 25, Feb. 27 and March 1 at the headquarters of the Costa Rica Football Federation in Alajuela.
"We are beyond excited for these historic and important friendly matches,” Burato said. “They will serve as a key evaluation for our team before our final domestic camp in early April. During our time together, we will focus on identifying mistakes quickly and using that time to ensure we are best prepared for the challenge ahead at the Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship in Guatemala.”
The February gathering is the second of three training camps this year prior to the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Futsal Championship to be held April 29-May 4 at the Domo Polideportivo, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, with the top-two finishers qualifying for the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, from Nov. 21-Dec. 7 in the Philippines.
The Futsal WNT also learned its draw for the qualifying tournament on Wednesday morning, with the USA set to face the winner of a Play-in match between Honduras and Nicaragua (April 29), Costa Rica (April 30) and Canada (May 1) in Group B. The Honduras / Nicaragua Play-in match will take place April 28. Start times will be announced at a later date. The top two finishers in each group will advance to the semifinals on May 3, with the winners qualifying for the Philippines and advancing to the final the following day.
