- Sunday’s lineup to take on Australia features 11 changes from the lineup that started against Colombia on Feb. 20 in Houston.
- The 11 changes mark just the SIXTH time in USWNT history – which spans 758 matches counting today’s game -- that the lineup has changed all 11 starters from game-to-game, but it’s just the SECOND time it has happened during the same event/camp and the FIRST time it has happened during one event/camp that did not include a closed-door international match.
- It is the first time it has happened in just under 25 years.
- While Hayes did make 10 changes from 10/27/2024 vs. Iceland to 10/30/2024 vs. Argentina last year, and the USA did make 10 changes from its first to its second 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup matches, there hasn’t been an 11-starter change from match-to-match since Jan. 7, 2000, which was a bit of an aberration, as the USA brought a young team to Australia for a tournament in January of that year while the veteran players were in contract negotiations with U.S. Soccer.
- In 1998, the USA held a 50-player training camp in Los Angeles which ended in matches against Ukraine in Los Angeles and Fresno, Calif. The lineup for those two games changed 100% between the matches with less experienced players in the first game (2-1 win) and veterans in the second (5-0 W).
- In 1999, when the USA was in Residency Training Camp for the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the USA played a closed-door match against Finland on Feb. 24 in Orlando with primarily back-up players (and won 3-1) and changed its entire lineup for the promoted match three days later with the first-choice players (2-0 win).
- In April of 2000, the USA played a closed-door international match against Iceland on April 5 with primarily back-ups and won 8-0. Three days later, with an entirely changed starting XI of first-choice players, the USA drew with Iceland, 0-0.
- With sisters Alyssa and Gisele Thompson starting, this is just the FOURTH time in U.S. history that sisters have started a match together, with the other three of course being the Mewis sisters, Kristie and Samantha.
- This is the first time two sisters have started since together since July 5, 2021, when the Mewis sisters started against Mexico in East Hartford. The Mewis sisters started two more games together, vs. Nigeria in 2021 in Austin, Texas, and at the Algarve Cup in Portugal on March 10, 2014, vs. Denmark.
- On May 11, 1997, the Fair twins – Lorrie and Ronnie -- were on the field at the same time, but they never started a game together. Ronnie has just two caps.
- Mandy McGlynn makes her second career start and will earn her second career cap. Her first came on Oct. 30 vs. Argentina in Louisville, Ky., a match in which she also earned her first shutout, becoming the ninth GK in U.S. history to earn a shutout in her first cap.
- Emily Sams earns her third career cap and makes her second start. She last played for the USA on Oct. 30, 2024, vs. Argentina in a match in which she played the full 90 minutes. Sears gets the start on her 23rd birthday!
- Korbin Albert is set to earn her 24th cap as she makes her 12th career start. Albert made her international debut in the USA’s final match of 2023 and appeared in all but two matches for the USWNT in 2024.
- Lynn Biyendolo makes her first start of 2025 and will earn her 77th cap. It will be her 32nd start for the USA.
- Alyssa Thompson earns her 14th cap and will make her fifth career start. She last started against England at Wembley Stadium on Nov. 30, 2024.
- The youngest player on the 2024 Olympic roster, Jaedyn Shaw will earn her 23rd cap as she makes her 11th career start for the USWNT. Shaw scored in each of her first five career starts for the USWNT, the longest such streak in program history, and has eight career goals.
- Tierna Davidson will be making her 66th international appearance and will captain the USA for the first time. She was the youngest player on the 2019 World Cup roster and a two-time Olympian, helping the U.S. win bronze in Tokyo in 2021 and gold earlier this summer in Paris. This will be her 52nd career start.
- Emma Sears will earn her fourth cap and start her third game for the USA. She started vs. Argentina in her adopted hometown of Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 30., 2024 and against England at Wembley Stadium on Nov. 30, 2024.
- Gisele Thompson earns her second cap after debuting on Feb. 20 vs. Colombia. This is her first start for the veteran of the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup and 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
- Claire Hutton earns her first cap and makes her first start, becoming the 273rd woman to play for the USWNT and the 15th player to debut under Emma Hayes.
- Crystal Dunn earns her 156th cap and her first since playing 90 minutes in the 2024 Olympic gold medal game win over Brazil. It will be her 125th career start. Only 33 players in U.S. history have 125 or more caps.
