This is the first time that Michelle Cooper (22), Ally Sentnor (21) and Alyssa Thompson (20) have started on the front line with each other for the senior National Team. They also started the final group stage game together in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, a 3-1 loss to Japan; Lilly Reale also started that match for the USA.
STARTING XI NOTES:
Claudia Dickey, 25, earns her first USWNT cap at the senior level. Dickey is the 29th goalkeeper in USWNT history to earn a cap. The former college basketball player at UNC is having a fine season with Seattle Reign FC. Dickey was a goalkeeper on the U.S. team at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship, which the USA proceeded to dominate, outscoring its opposition 44-1 en route to the title, but the FIFA U-20 WWC was cancelled that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She played four games in that tournament which were her four career U-20 caps.
Naomi Girma, 24, earns her third cap and makes her third start of 2025 after missing the USA’s first three events of the year. At 24, and playing in just her 47th international game, she is already a veteran leader and considered one of the top defenders in the world. This is her 45th career start, and she started all 18 matches she played in 2024. While she has worn the captain’s band in prior matches, this match will mark the second time she has been the U.S. captain from the start of the match and her second consecutive game captaining the squad.
Avery Patterson, 23, will earn her fifth cap and make her third start, after making her first appearance on April 5 vs. Brazil in Los Angeles when she came on at the end of the match. Patterson, who has three goals from the outside back this year for the Houston Dash, has been in the USA’s Youth National Team program at the U-14, U-20 and U-23 levels.
Ally Sentnor, 21, hits double figures in caps with 10 and makes her fifth start. She has four goals and one assist in her first nine caps and leads the USA in goals so far this year. She recorded her first USWNT brace in the USA’s most recent match, a 4-0 win over Jamaica on June 3.
Alyssa Thompson, 20, will make her fifth consecutive start, the most consecutive starts in her career, and earn her 20th cap. This will be just her ninth career start. Thompson had the assist on Trinity Rodman’s goal against Brazil on April 5. It was her second career USWNT assist to go with one goal. She helped set up the USA’s first goal against China PR on May 31 with a hard run into the box and scramble for the ball but was not credited with the assist.
Michelle Cooper, 22, earns her seventh cap and makes her third career start. She will be looking to add to her one career goal, scored against Australia in the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, but she did earn her first career assist on May 31 vs. China PR.
Emily Sonnett starts in the center of the defense to earn her 109th career cap. She played full 90-minute games in both April matches vs. Brazil. She will be making her 57th start today, meaning she has started 52% of her career caps.
Claire Hutton, 19,will earn her fourth cap and make her fourth start. She got starts against Australia at the 2025 SheBelieves Cup and against Brazil on April 8, a match in which she went the full 90 minutes, and against Jamaica on June 3.
Rose Lavelle, 30, earns her first cap and makes her first start since Dec. 3, 2024, in the USA’s final game of last year, a 2-1 win over the Netherlands. The World Cup and Olympic champion will earn her 111th cap and will be looking for her 25th career goal. Lavelle needs a combination of two goals or assists to become the 25th player in U.S. history with a combined 50 career goals and assists.
Sam Coffey, 26, earns her 36th career cap and makes her 27th career start. She started 19 games in 2024 after just two combined starts in 2022 (her debut year) and 2023. She scored her second career goal on May 31 vs. China PR on an excellent finish via an assist from Cataria Macario.
Lilly Reale, 21, earns her first cap and makes her first start. She attended the Futures Camp in January, the U-23 WNT training camp in LA in April and traveled with the U-23s to Germany during the last FIFA window, scoring the first goal in the USA’s 2-1 win over Germany in the first game. She also played for the U.S. U-23s in 2023 and has four U-23 caps and one goal. Reale was a starter for the USA at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and ended her U-20 international career with nine caps and one goal. She had four caps with the U.S. U-17s, but her U-17 cycle was basically cancelled by COVID-19.
