U.S. Power Soccer National Team Completes Historic International Friendly Series with England at St. George’s Park
Pete Winslow Scores his 8th Career Goal and Riley Johnson Bags Assist in Tight 1-1 Draw; Lexi Heer and Johnson Find the Net in 3-2 Defeat; David Dowling Collects First Career Assist in His Second Cap
BURTON UPON TRENT (July 21, 2025) –The U.S. Power Soccer National Team put in two exciting, tightly contested performances with a 1-1 draw and narrow 3-2 loss in historic matches against England at St. George’s Park over the weekend. The team’s first ever international friendly matches reflect the Federation’s commitment to the U.S. Way philosophy, which prioritizes strategic investment in resources, infrastructure and holistic support for our Extended National Teams – including the Power Soccer National Team – to ensure they are equipped to compete and succeed at the highest levels of international play.
July 18 Match Recap: England 1, USA 1
A first rematch of the 2023 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup semifinal, England and the USA’s clash was a tense, defensively sound battle throughout. Four veteran players started the match for the USA in goalkeeper Jordan Dickey, center Riley Johnson, wing Lexi Heer and striker Pete Winslow.
The scoring started early in the first half with a fourth-minute own goal from the USA. England captain Jon Bolding fired a shot from 10 yards, just beyond the right side of the penalty area. Goalkeeper Dickey and captain Johnson were in excellent positions to block the shot, and Johnson did, but the ball ricocheted off Dickey and rolled into the unattended goal from just a few feet.
The USA was able to claw one back shortly after in the eighth minute, where Winslow scored his eighth career goal. After a sustained attack, the USA’s pressure paid off when Johnson, earning his 11th career assist, found Winslow alone in the center of the court. The usual set-up man powered one home himself, a one-time blast that England goalkeeper Chris Gordon was able to deflect with his chair butcouldn’tkeep from crossing the line.
Despite fierce pressure from both sides, neither team was able to break the deadlock in the second half. The USA did see a milestone in the 35th minute as center David Dowling made his international debut, coming on to replace Winslow.
The game ended with a fury at both ends, highlighted by a last-minute save at the right post from Dickey after a short-range effort from England’s Brad Bates. Moments later, Dickey cleared a dangerous cross out of the area with authority as the referees blew the final whistle for a 1-1 draw.

July 20 Match Recap: England 3, USA 2
Head coach Tracy Mayer adjusted his starting lineup by one during Saturday’s match, opting to insert center David Dowling over Pete Winslow, who scored the lone goal in Friday’s contest.
After a tense start to the first half, first-timestarter Dowling helped break the deadlock in the 16th minute. With a set piece from the left corner, Dowling delivered a precise ball to find Lexi Heer at the back post, who powered it over the line. This goal recorded Dowling’s first assist in his second cap for the Power NT, while Heer celebrated a milestone– her 10th career goal in 20 overall appearances.
The half ended with the USA up by one, but England gathered themselves for a comeback at halftime. Goalkeeper Chris Gordon got the Three Lions on the scoresheet two minutes into the second half after a mistake from USA veteran goalkeeper Jordan Dickey. Dickey came out to the top of the box to clear the ball, but took an unfortunate mistouch that Gordon was able to capitalize on and send over the line for England.
Just two minutes later, in the 24th minute, Gordon struck again – this time from a well-placed corner from Marcus Harrison. Harrison played the ball to the edge of the box, where Gordon was waiting near the top left to missile a shot toward the back post, scoring his second of the match and giving England a 2-1 lead.
England put up a third in the 36th minute, after high pressure on a USA kick-in. Captain Jon Boling, stationed near half court, controlled the ball and sent a sharp pass in to find Dylan Marshall on the left side, who cooly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, pushing the score to 3-1.
The USA fought back in the 38th minute, with Riley Johnson finishing off a clinical set piece. Winslow, who had come on for Dowling early in the second half, took an indirect kick from the edge of the box and played it square to his left, where Johnson was waiting. Johnson quickly fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Gordon’s right side, narrowing the gap to 3-2. The goal marked Johnson’s 16th career goal and Winslow’s 19th career assist.
In the final two minutes, wing Ryan Connolly entered the match for a quick shift, earning his first cap for the Power NT, the second U.S. debut of the series.
Despite Johnson’s thrilling finish, the match ended there, with England holding on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory that ended their historic two-game friendly series with the USA at St. George’s Park.
