Olivia Moultrie scored in the Portland Thorns’ 1-1 draw against the North Carolina Courage, capitalizing off a blocked shot attempt in the 44th minute.
It was Moultrie’s third goal of the 2025 season, but it also tied the record for the most goals scored by a teenager with 13. Moultrie, 19, equalized the record set by U.S. Women’s National Team player and Courage midfielder Jaedyn Shaw. Shaw subbed on for the Courage in the 68th minute.
Sunday’s goal helped keep the Thorns (7-4-5, 26 points) in contention for a top spot in the league. The Thorns currently sit fifth with the rivals Seattle Reign FC closely behind, and the standings are quite tight from the No. 2 spot down to sixth. The Courage (5-6-5, 20 points) remain in playoff contention, but are currently on the outside looking in with 10 matches left in the regular season.
In 2022, Moultrie became the youngest player in NWSL history to score at 16 years old. The attacking midfielder later earned her first USWNT cap in December 2023. At the time she was the 72nd teenager all-time to earn a cap for the squad. She’s made nine appearances, most recently this summer, and also scored two international goals as a teenager.
Moultrie turns 20 years old on Sept. 17 giving her less than a month, and four matches, to break Shaw’s record.
