The U.S. Men’s National Team prepares for its first matches of the year ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer. The players are still vying for a coveted spot on the World Cup roster, and the upcoming matches are the last international fixtures before head coach Mauricio Pochettino makes his final selections for the tournament.
Here’s everything you need to know about the March matches:
Who is the USMNT playing in March?
The USMNT will play two World Cup-qualified opponents in ninth-ranked Belgium on Saturday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. ET, before facing sixth-ranked Portugal on Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. ET. Both matches will be hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
Who will be competing for the USMNT in the March matches?
Pochettino last week named the 27-player roster for the training camp ahead of these two matches. Seventeen players from the roster competed in the last camp in November that saw the USA win 2-1 against Paraguay and 5-1 against Uruguay. Both of those November opponents have qualified for the FIFA World Cup, and the U.S. will meet Paraguay again in the group stage.
A few noteworthy names on Pochettino's March roster include defender Antonee Robinson, who returns to the USMNT after missing the entirety of international duty in 2025 through injury. Midfielder Weston McKennie will face Portugal for the first time since he scored in his senior team debut, helping the U.S. to a 1-1 draw in 2017. It’s also the first appearance for defender Chris Richards since he was named 2025 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year in January.
Which kits will the USMNT wear in the March matches?
The USMNT will debut the new Stars and Stripes kits in the March matches. The team will wear the Stripes kit against Belgium and the Stars kit against Portugal.
Are the March matches the final USMNT games before the World Cup?
No, the USMNT will compete in two more matches before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Following the March matches and the announcement of the USMNT World Cup roster on May 26, the USA will face Senegal on May 31 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The USMNT will then take on four-time World Cup champion Germany in the Coca-Cola Send-Off Match on June 6 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
