USA OPENS 2026 FIFA U-20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP AGAINST UEFA U-19 SEMIFINALISTS ITALY: The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team opens the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Sunday, Sept. 6 – the second match day of the tournament – against Italy, which fell 2-0 in the semifinals of the 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship to eventual European champion Spain. With UEFA getting four berths to this World Cup, plus host Poland, the semifinal finish was enough to earn Italy a spot in this World Cup. The match will be played at Stadion Miejski LKS in Lodz, Poland, with a Noon ET kick-off on Fox Sports Plus (FSP). The USA Group D opponents also include long-time women’s youth power Japan as well as New Zealand. The USA will take on the Young Nadeshiko on Sept. 9 (Noon ET on FS2) at Stadion Miejski LKS before finishing group play against the Junior Football Ferns on Sept. 12 at (9 a.m. ET on FS1) at Arena Sosnowiec in Sosnowiec, Poland. WATCH FIFA U-20 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP ON FOX: All of the USA’s group stage matches will be broadcast live on the FOX family of networks. Each of the 52 matches of the tournament will be broadcast on either FOXSoccer Plus, FS1 or FS2, with 30 matches on FSP (22 group stage, eight knockout), two matches on FS1 (one group stage, one quarterfinal) and 20 on FS2 (13 group stage, seven knockout). All the games will be available online at FOXsports.com and the FOX Sports App with corresponding authentication. The U.S. games will be shown in Spanish in the USA as well with USA vs. Italy on Universo and Peacock and the final two games will be shown on Peacock and the Telemundo Deportes Ahora FAST Channel.
RUN-UP TO POLAND: In this decade, with more and more professional players being a part of the U-20 WNT program, preparation for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup has proved a bit more difficult, due to the challenge of bringing the top pool of players together on a consistent basis. Still, the USA has had a solid preparation schedule leading into this World Cup, compiling a record of 6W-2L-2D over 2025 and 2026, with eight of those matches coming against teams that will also participate in this World Cup (with the caveat that two matches were against the France U-23 side). The fact that just eight of the 21 players on this roster were a part of the roster for Concacaf qualifying shows how things can change in the pool over a year or more for players at this age group. Over the preparation matches, the USA scored 26 goals and allowed six against eight different countries: Guyana, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Canada in Concacaf qualifying and then World Cup preparation matches against Brazil, France U-23, England and Colombia.
THE USWNT IN POLAND –A FIRST: At this U-20 Women’s World Cup, the U.S. U-20 WNT will play its first-ever matches in Poland, and in fact, these will be the first-ever matches by any U.S. Women’s National Team in the country. The senior USWNT has played Poland just one time, but that match took place in Sardinia, Italy, in 1989, a 0-0 draw. The match gave Poland a very unique distinction: Poland is one of just two countries in the world that do not have a losing record against the USWNT. With the other country being Czechoslovakia (also one match played, also a 0-0 draw), a country that no longer exists, Poland is the last remaining country on earth that does not have an all-time losing record to the U.S. Women. The U.S. U-23 WNT did play the Poland U-19 WNT in 2016, but that match was played in Croatia. Amazingly, that game ended in a 0-0 draw as well, despite the USA outshooting Poland, 25-0.
THE U.S. ROSTER– PROS LEAD THE WAY: Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006, are age-eligible for this World Cup, and for just the third time, a U.S. roster at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will feature professional players. This roster will tie a record for the most professional players on a U.S. FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team with eight, the same as the U.S. roster featured in 2024. The big difference is that all eight on the 2024 team were in their rookie year in the NWSL. This time around, just three players – Evan O’Steen of Seattle Reign FC, Linda Ullmark of the Houston Dash and Audrey McKeen of Racing Louisville FC -- are rookies. With the exception of Ullmark, who played two seasons at North Carolina and scored 13 goals in 48 matches for the Tar Heels, and Katie Scott, who played part of one season at Penn State, the other six pros opted out of college soccer. Aside from Ullmark, all signed professional contracts as high school-aged players via the NWSL Under-18 Entry Mechanism.
- Evan O’Steen (18 years old) is in her rookie year for the Reign but has yet to see NWSL minutes.
- Fuller (19) is in her third year as a professional, having spent the first two and half with Angel City FC before transferring to Bay FC. Including action for both clubs, she has played in 20 games this year spanning 1,472 minutes while scoring three goals. She also has two assists.
- Scott (19) is in her second season for the Current and has played 673 minutes in 12 games in 2026. In her final game before leaving for the World Cup, she had to come off the bench in the 24th minute due to an injury and helped the Current to a 3-2 win over NC Courage.
- Ainsley McCammon (19) is in her third season with the Reign and has played 19 games this season spanning 1,435 minutes. She has four assists and has started 17 of those games.
- Ullmark (20) is a rookie with the Dash and has played in 22 matches spanning 1,654 minutes. She has scored three goals with three assists so far and remarkably has started all 22 matches in her rookie year so far.
- Ullmark was named the NWSL Rookie of the Month for July. She had two goals and two assists across four matches in the month, highlighted by a goal and an assist in Denver to help her team earn a point on the road. She also had the game winner in Houston’s 1-0 win against Bay FC.
- Emeri Adames (20), who was the club’s first-ever U-18 signing, is in her third season with the Reign and has played 502 minutes over 16 games this season. She has two assists this season and seven career NWSL goals.
- Adames, who also played in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, is the youngest goal scorer in Seattle Reign history. She scored in the 96th minute against the Washington Spirit on May 24, 2024.
- Micayla Johnson (18) is in her second season with the Stars and has played in 17 games spanning 351 minutes this season. She has one goal in her NWSL career, that coming against the Utah Royals at age 17. The goal made her the youngest goal scorer in club history.
- Audrey McKeen (17) is in her first season with Racing Louisville and scored her first NWSL goal on Aug. 7 in a 3-1 win over the Orlando Pride, becoming the youngest goal scorer in club history. She has played 19matches this year, with four starts, spanning 458 minutes.
- McKeen is also the youngest player on this World Cup roster.
- Last month, at age 18, McCammon became youngest NWSL player to record multiple assists in the same game, breaking Trinity Rodman's record.
- Ullmark is one of three NWSL rookies this season to start every possible match for their clubs.
- In April, Fuller became the second teenager in league history to play 50 regular season games.
ROSTER BUILDING: Just eight players on the World Cup roster (38%) were also on the roster for the 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship, meaning 13 players who didn’t play in qualifying will feature in this World Cup. The eight players who made the World Cup roster who were a part of the Concacaf qualifying team are goalkeepers Caroline Birkel from Stanford and Kealey Titmuss from Penn State, defenders Aven Alvarez from UNC, Emma Johnson from Penn State and Katie Scott from the Kansas City Current, Houston Dash midfielder Linda Ullmark, Bay FC midfielder Kennedy Fuller and UNC forward Sealey Strawn. More significantly, 10 players on the roster have represented the USA at a FIFA U-17 WWC and/or a FIFA U-20 WWC, meaning the USA carries some significant big tournament experience into this event.

Thus, the 2026 FIFA U-20 WWC will be the third FIFA World Cup for Adames, Johnson and O’Steen and the second for Birkel, Scott, Fuller, McCammon, Cecil, Nguyen and Touray.
NOTES FROM PAST YOUTH WORLD CUPS: Evan O’Steen played in three of the four matches at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Pearl Cecil played every minute of each of the four games, captaining the USA in three of them, and Nyanya Touray was the team’s leading scorer with four goals. She scored in all three group games, tallying against Ecuador, China PR (twice) and Norway.
Micayla Johnson scored twice at last year’s U-17 WWC, including a world class strike from distance against the Netherlands in the Round of 16 match that the USA eventually lost in penalty kicks after dominating proceedings during the first 90 minutes. Johnson, who also scored in the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, became the first U.S. player to score in two FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup tournaments and will be looking to tally in her third consecutive FIFA event.
At the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Evan O’Steen played in five of the six matches and won the Golden Glove as the tournament’s best goalkeeper. Kennedy Fuller won the Silver Boot as the second leading scorer in the tournament with four goals and three assists. Fuller and Ainsley McCammon split captaining duties in that World Cup, each wearing the armband in three matches.
At the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, where the USA finished third in the world, Birkel was a back-up on that team and did not play. Adames started all seven matches in that tournament and had a team-leading four assists.
ROSTER NOTES
- The USA’s World Cup roster features eight pros, two college freshmen, seven college sophomores and four college juniors in Aven Alvarez from UNC, Lizzie Boamah from Stanford, Lily Joseph from Notre Dame and Alex Buck from Washington.
- There are no players on the roster who have trained with the full U.S. Women’s National Team, but Ainsley McCammon was called into the Futures Camp in January of 2025.
- Caroline Birkel, Virginia’s Pearl Cecil, Stanford’s Y-Lan Nguyen, Florida State’s Nyanya Touray and Buck were all a part of the U.S. National Team Development Camp in January of this year.
- All players on the roster have been capped at the U-20 level, led by Emeri Adames (17), Alvarez (12 caps) and Scott (11 caps), who are the only three players in double-figures.
- Four players – Kealey Titmuss, Boamah, Alvarez and Adames – all have experience playing in the 2023 Pan American Games for the U.S. U-19 WNT. The U.S. team, playing against senior Women’s National Teams from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Argentina and Chile, took bronze in that tournament. All four players played significant roles in the competition with Adames scoring three goals, one each against Bolivia, Costa Rica and Chile. Against Chile in the semifinal, even though the USA fell, 2-1, Adames scored on Christiane Endler, widely considered one of the top female goalkeepers in the world at that time.
- Linda Ullmark leads the U.S. U-20s in scoring this year with four international goals, three of which came via a hat trick in a 5-0 win over France, Micayla Johnson has two goals and Adames has scored once.
- Ullmark is the top international goal scorer on the roster with six goals in her seven U-20 caps.
- Several of the players on this U-20 roster found great success at the U-17 international level. Micayla Johnson finished her U-17 career with nine goals in 18 caps. Evan O’Steen racked up 13 caps as a starter in two consecutive U-17 World Cups. Touray scored eight goals in just 13 U-17 caps. McCammon had two goals in her 11 U-17 caps as a holding midfielder, including one in the Third-Place Match victory over England at the 2024 FIFA U-17 WWC. Nguyen had eight caps and one goal at the U-17 level. Scott played 15 times for the U.S. U-17s and scored once.
- Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006, are age-eligible for the World Cup and the USA roster features nine players born in 2006, seven born in 2007 and five born in 2008.
- Those players born in 2008 are age-eligible for the 2028 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup as well, they are O’Steen, Cecil, Touray, Micayla Johnson and Audrey McKeen.
- Fuller, McCammon and Scott were part of the U.S. team that won the 2022 Concacaf Girls’ U-15 Championship.
- Four players on the roster played in the 2025 NCAA College Cup: Birkel, Boamah and Nguyen for runner-up Stanford and Touray for NCAA champion Florida State.
- The roster is made up of players from six different pro clubs and eight different colleges with three players each from Stanford and UNC. Penn State has two players with Florida State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Virginia and Washington having one each.
- There are four players on the roster from Texas, two from Michigan, and two from Southern California, more specifically, San Diego.
- Of the USA’s college players, several are already highly decorated for their schools:
- Birkel was the ACC Goalkeeper of the Year as a freshman, helping lead the Cardinal to the NCAA College Cup.
- In 2024, Alvarez was one of three freshmen to play in all 27 matches and helped the Tar Heels to the NCAA title.
- As a sophomore in 2025, Boamah played in 24 of Stanford’s 25 matches, helping the Cardinal to the NCAA College Cup.
- Hope Munson made the ACC All-Freshman team for UNC in 2025, playing almost 1,800 minutes.
- Nguyen made the ACC All-Freshman Team in 2025, played in all 25 games for the Cardinal, spanning almost 1,700 minutes, and helped her school to the NCAA College Cup.
- Touray had the rare experience of winning an NCAA title as a freshman last season with Florida State. She scored two goals with two assists in 16 games.
- Buck was named First-Team All-Big Ten last season and led the Huskies in scoring with nine goals and five assists. Buck is the oldest player on the World Cup roster.
- Joseph opened her junior season with a bang, scoring twice in a 2-2 draw with Penn State in the second match of this year and scored four goals in her first five matches before leaving for the World Cup.
JEPSON AT THE HELM: This will be the first World Cup for U.S. head coach Vicky Jepson, who came to U.S. Soccer after spending four seasons as the senior assistant head coach with Tottenham Hotspur in the England Women’s Super League. Jepson previously served as manager of Liverpool FC Women in the WSL and has also worked at the youth international level, where she served as a coach educator with the English FA and coached the England U-17 Women’s National Team, guiding the team through qualifiers and at the UEFA Women’s U-17 Euros.
24 TEAMS VIE FOR 12th U-20 TITLE: This year marks the 12th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, FIFA’s most high-profile women’s competition after the World Cup and the Olympic Games. The biennial competition began as the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship in 2002 and was held as a U-19 event in 2004 before moving to its current Under-20 format in 2006. The 24 participating nations for the 2026 edition of the tournament were drawn into six groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group and the four best third-place finishers will advance to the Round of 16 taking place on Sept. 16 and 17. The quarterfinals will all be played on Sept. 19 and 20 with the semifinals being contested on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Final will be held on Sunday, Feb. 27 and the Third-Place Match will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26. This is the second time the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will feature Round of 16 matches. With three-time champions Germany remarkably having failed to qualify for this tournament, the USA is one of three teams to have qualified for every FIFA WWC at this age level, along with Brazil and Nigeria.
THE VENUES: The 52 matches of this tournament will take place at four stadiums and in four cities spanning three metropolitan areas: Arena Katowice in Katowice (15,500 capacity), Stadion Miejski Bielsko-Biala in Bielsko-Biala (14,963), Stadion Miejski LKS Lodz in Lodz (18,029) and Arena Sosnowiec in Sosnowiec (11,600). Katowice and Sosnowiec are adjacent cities in southern Poland. Lodz is in central Poland while Bielsko-Biala is 40 miles south of Katowice and Sosnowiec.

HOW WE GOT HERE: CONCACAF QUALIFYING IN COSTA RICA: The USA qualified for the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup at the 2025 Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship in Costa Rica. The USA handily won its group, defeating Guyana, 8-0, Puerto Rico, 3-1, and Costa Rica, 4-0, to earn a berth to the semifinals and the World Cup berth that went it. Surprisingly, the USA was upset by Canada, 1-0, in the semifinals, ending their tournament, but the World Cup berth was already secured. Just eight (38%) of the 21 players who played at 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship made this World Cup roster, meaning 13 players who didn’t play in qualifying will be in Poland. The players on the World Cup team who scored during qualifying are Kennedy Fuller and Linda Ullmark with two goals each, and Emma Johnson, Katie Scott and Sealey Strawn, who all had one goal each.
HISTORY OF SUCCESS AT THE U-20 WWC: The USA has qualified for every edition of the U-20 WWC and has won three of the 11 previous tournaments, compiling a 36W-11L-10D overall record. At the inaugural FIFA U-19 Women’s Championship in 2002, the USA took home the title by defeating host Canada 1-0 on a golden goal in overtime from future WNT star Lindsay Tarpley in front of nearly 50,000 fans.
In 2008, future WNT stars Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan helped lead the USA to the tournament title, scoring in the championship match against North Korea. The U.S. won the 2012 tournament, downing three group winners in the knockout rounds en route to the trophy as future National Team stars and World Cup winners Crystal Dunn, Morgan Gautrat (formerly Brian), Julie Ertz (formerly Johnston) and Samantha Mewis played major roles.
Heartbreakingly, the USA has been knocked out of the tournament in penalty kicks in 2006, 2010 and 2014. The U-20s have lost just 10 games in regulation in the previous 11 tournaments, including three defeats to Germany, three to Japan and one each to Korea DRP, Spain, Netherlands and China PR. The USA also lost a game in overtime to Korea DPR. In addition to three tourney titles and three PK exits, the USA finished third in 2004 and 2024, and fourth in 2006 and 2016, giving the USA seven top four finishes in the 11 tournaments.
U.S. U-20 WNT A SPRINGBOARD TO SENIOR WNT: The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup has been a launching point for many players who have gone on to represent the full USWNT and many more who have played professionally. In fact, 62 different players who have played in a FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the USA have gone on to earn at least one cap for the senior side (although several players played in multiple youth World Cups). From the USA’s 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup Team, Alyssa Thompson made the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Team and Korbin Albert (now Shrader) and Jaedyn Shaw made the 2024 Olympic Team, with Albert scoring the game-winning goal vs. Australia in group play and assisting on the game-winning goal in the gold medal match. From the 2024 FIFA U-20 WWC Team, six players have already earned caps with the USWNT: Jordyn Bugg (who was age-eligible for this tournament), Gisele Thompson, Claire Hutton (also age-eligible for this tournament), Riley Jackson, Maddie Dahlien and Ally Sentnor.
From 2002-2024, an average of 5.6 players per U.S. U-20 World Cup Team have gone on to represent the full USWNT, which represents about 25% of each roster.
From the USA’s 2022 FIFA U-20 WWC Team, Shrader, Michelle Cooper, Sally Menti (who did not play in the tournament due to injury), Olivia Moultrie, Ayo Oke, Lilly Reale, Ally Sentnor, Jaedyn Shaw and Alyssa Thompsonwent on to earn USWNT caps.
USWNT players Emily Fox, Naomi Girma, Jaelin Howell, Ashley Sanchez, Savanah DeMelo, Mandy McGlynn, Tara McKeown (now Rudd) and Sophia Smith (now Wilson) played for the USA at the 2018 U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Mallory Swanson (formerly Pugh) captained the USA in 2016 in Papua New Guinea, a squad that also featured future USWNT players Casey Murphy, DeMelo, Fox and Sanchez.
In 2014, Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan (now Heaps), Mallory Pugh (now Swanson), Margaret Purce, Andi Sullivan and Jane Campbell were on the World Cup Team.
FIFA World Cup champions Morgan Gautrat, Crystal Dunn, Julie Johnston (now Ertz) and Samantha Mewis helped the U-20s lift the trophy in 2012, while Alyssa Naeher backstopped Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan’s 2008 team to the championship.
Tobin Heath, Kelley O’Hara and Amy Rodriguez appeared at the 2006 tournament in Russia, while Megan Rapinoe, Becky Sauerbrunn and Rodriguez also represented the U-20s in 2004 in Thailand.
Lori Chalupny, Heather O’Reilly, Lindsey Tarpley, Leslie Osborne, Ashlyn Harris and Rachel Buehler were among a record 12 future WNT players who helped the USA lift the first tournament trophy in 2002.
U.S. U-20 WNT vs. Italy:
- This is Italy’s third appearance in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, having exited in the Group Stage in 2004 and 2012, and thus the USA and Italy have never met in this tournament.
- Italy put in a solid showing at the 2025 UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship, which was played in Poland. Italy finished second in its group behind France, tying Poland 1-1, picking up a huge win over Sweden, 1-0, and then falling to France, 2-1. That second place group finish earned Italy its World Cup berth and a semifinal match with eventual champion Spain, where LeAzzurre fell 2-0.
- Two of Italy’s three goals in group play were scored by Roma’s Giada Pellegrino Cimò – a dramatic 90+2 equalizer vs. Poland and the game-winner vs. Sweden. Manuela Sciabica scored in the loss to Spain.
U.S. U-20 WNT vs. Japan:
- The USA will be going for its first-ever win over Japan, the current Asian champions, in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The USA and Japan met each other in three consecutive FIFA U-20 WWC tournaments, in 2016, 2018 and 2022 (2020 was cancelled due to the global pandemic), with the USA losing twice and tying once.
- The USA fell 1-0 in the Third-Place Match in 2016 in Papua New Guinea, drew 2-2 (goals from Sophia Smith and Savannah DeMelo) in group play in 2018 in France, and fell 3-1 (Simone Jackson was the lone goal scorer) in group play in 2022 in Costa Rica.
- Japan has been a part of nine of the 12 FIFA U-20 WWC contested and has failed to advance out of group play just once. Japan is on a roll in the U-20 Women’s World Cup, having finished no lower than third in the past five tournaments in which it has played (Japan did not qualify in 2014), finishing second in the last two iterations, winning in 2018 and taking third in 2016. Japan also finished third in 2012 when it hosted.
- Japan had few issues qualifying via the 2026 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup held in Thailand, winning all three of its group games by a 13-2 margin, then beating Vietnam, 4-0, in the quarterfinals and China PR, 2-0, in the semifinals before downing North Korea, 1-0, in the championship game.
- Noa Fukushima led her country in scoring in the qualifying tournament with five goals and was named tournament MVP. She also scored five goals to lead Japan at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, even though her side was crushed 5-1 by North Korea in the quarterfinals.
- Mao Itamura and Natsumi Tago each scored three times in the U-20 qualifying tournament.
U.S. U-20 WNT vs. New Zealand:
- The USA and New Zealand have never met in a FIFA U-20 WWC even though the Kiwis will be participating in their 10th consecutive FIFA tournament at this age level.
- New Zealand has advanced out of group play only once, that coming in 2014 when it fell, 4-1, to Nigeria in the quarterfinals.
- As usual, New Zealand breezed through qualifying at the 2025 OFC U-19 Women's Championship, out-scoring its group opponents, 22-0, before beating Cook Islands 8-0 in the semifinal to earn its World Cup berth. The Junior Ferns then beat fellow qualifier New Caledonia, 3-0, in the championship match.
- Zoe Benson, who plays for the Wellington Phoenix, was named tournament MVP while Emily Lyon won the Golden Boot with 11 total goals. Benson had six in the tournament and Amber De Wit scored three.
- Ten of New Zealand’s players are on the books for the Wellington Phoenix, which plays in the A-League, Australia’s top-flight for women.
- New Zealand has two other players playing in Australia and just one based in Europe, that being goalkeeper Nienke Holland, who plays in, yes, Holland.
- The Kiwis also have four players at American universities: Charli Dunn at Middle Tennessee State, Penny Brill at Xavier, Amber De Wit at North Dakota State and Grace Duncan, who plays with U.S. forward Alex Buck at the University of Washington.

VIDEO SUPPORT GIVES WAY TO VAR FOR THE U-20s: After a new system to review decisions on goals, penalty kicks, red card incidents and cases of mistaken identity was unveiled during the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, FIFA has transitioned to use the full Video Assistant Referee for this tournament. While Video Assistant Referee automatically checks incidents/decisions, nothing was automatically checked by a Video Support. Instead, each head coach had two chances to request a review, e.g. “challenge” the call, in any of the above instances should they choose to do so. In this tournament, that onus will be back on the referees with VAR in full use.
TOURNAMENT REGS
- Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2006, are age-eligible for this tournament.
- Players also must be born on or before December 31, 2010, to be age eligible.
- Each team gets five substitutes per match and a maximum of three substitution opportunities, not counting halftime.
- Each team will also be allowed one additional concussion substitute.
- For matches that go to overtime, teams will be allowed one additional substitution and one additional substitution opportunity, not counting the period between the end of the match and the start of overtime, and the halftime of overtime.
- If a player receives two cautions in two different matches, she will be suspended for the following match.
- If a player is sent off as a result of a direct or indirect red card, she will be suspended for the following match.
- Single yellow cards will be wiped clean after the quarterfinal round.
- Should teams be tied on points at the end of the group stage, the tiebreakers are as follows:
- a) Head-to-head result between the teams concerned
- b) Superior goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned
- c) Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned
- If two or more teams are still tied on the basis of the first three criteria, the ranking will be determined as follows:
- a) Superior difference in all group matches
- b) Greatest number of goals scored in all group matches
- c) FIFA Fair Play points
- d) Drawing of lots
- The four best third-place teams will advance based on:
- a) Greatest number of points obtained in group matches
- b) Goal difference resulting from group matches
- c) Greatest number of goals scored in group matches
- d) FIFA Fair Play points
- e) Drawing of lots
- As in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, VAR can review corner kicks that clearly have been incorrectly awarded and players have five seconds to take throw-ins and goal kicks. In addition, substitutes have 10 seconds to leave the field or her replacement must wait at least one minute to enter the match and it must be at the next stoppage of play.
- At the end of the tournament, FIFA will present several awards. The Golden, Silver and Bronze Boots will be awarded to the three players with the highest numbers of goals scored, with number of assists serving as a tiebreaker.
- The Golden, Silver and Bronze Balls will be awarded to the best players of the tournament. The FIFA Technical Study Group will select a short list after the semifinals.
- The Golden Glove will be awarded to the top goalkeeper in the tournament, as selected by the FIFA Technical Study Group.
- In the knockout rounds, if matches are tied at the end of regulation, 30 minutes of overtime will be played followed by penalty kicks if the match is still tied.
