After serving as an important leader during the U.S. Under-19 Men’s Youth National Team’s return to action this year, defender Josh Wynder has been named a finalist for 2022 Chipotle U.S. Soccer Young Male Player of the Year.

For the second year in a row, fans will have the opportunity to vote on select Player of the Year Awards, with the fan vote comprising 15% of the total vote. Nominees for all awards are selected by U.S. Soccer’s technical staff. Voting for the awards starts Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11:00 a.m. ET and closes on Dec. 22 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winners will be announced in the weeks that follow.

Let’s take a look at some of Wynder’s highlights from 2022:

• Appeared in all five matches for the U-19s, logging 291 minutes during their undefeated campaign and providing a steady presence on the back line.

• Captained the squad twice, tied for the team lead.

 

 

• Played in all three matches during the USA’s title run at September’s Slovenia Nations Cup and provided an assist in the team’s wild 4-3 win against Croatia.

• Enjoyed a breakthrough season for Louisville City FC in the USL Championship, making 24 appearances.

• Finished runner-up for USL Championship Young Player of the Year.

• Played an important role during Louisville’s run to the USL Championship Final, appearing in all three games of the postseason run, converting his attempt in a penalty kick shootout vs. Pittsburgh to reach the Eastern Conference Final and starting the championship match.

• Contributed during Louisville’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run, converting the decisive 10th penalty during a shoot-out in the tournament’s third round against St. Louis City SC II.
