The 2026 FIFA World Cup on U.S. soil will soon be upon us next summer. Before that, FIFA will host the World Cup draw to determine the groups on Dec. 5 in Washington, D.C., the organization announced Friday.
The U.S. Men’s National Team is already set for Group D as a co-host nation. As the other host countries, Mexico will be in Group A and Canada in Group B.
This World Cup will be the first-ever 48-team field. Ten other nations have qualified for the 2026 tournament, including Korea Republic and Japan, who the USMNT is set to face in upcoming friendlies on Sept. 6 and Sept. 9. By the draw in December, 42 of the 48 countries will have qualified while the last six will compete in playoffs in March 2026 to fill the final spots.
The draw will be held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at 12 p.m. ET and broadcast worldwide. The World Cup begins June 11 in Mexico while the group stages in the U.S. kick off June 12. This will mark the second time the USA has hosted the biggest event in sports since 1994.
