Charlotte FC 0 – 2 Atlanta United FC
Atlanta United FC has booked its spot in the Quarterfinals for the third time in club history with a much-needed 2-0 victory against I-85 Derby foe Charlotte FC—the Five Stripes’ first against their rival since August 2024. The result means Tata Martino’s side secured consecutive road victories for the first time since a pair of league wins at Portland and Orlando in August 2019.
Russia international and Atlanta captain Alexey Miranchuk opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with an exquisite top-corner finish following a well-executed give-and-go sequence with U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team midfielder Luke Brennan, marking the 21-year-old’s second assist in as many Open Cup matches. After Miranchuk tallied his sixth goal of the season across all competitions in the first half, ATLUTD finished off its rival in the second half through U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team midfielder Cooper Sanchez’s first goal for the senior team. With his impressive solo effort resulting in the 71st-minute score, Sanchez has become the fourth-youngest goalscorer in Atlanta United history at 18 years, 1 month and 2 days old, surpassing George Bello, Caleb Wiley and Andrew Carleton.
San Jose Earthquakes 4 – 2 Minnesota United FC
The Supporters’ Shield-leading San Jose Earthquakes have returned to the Quarterfinals for the 11th time in club history following an exhilarating victory against fellow Western Conference contender Minnesota United FC. The victory is the Quakes’ first against the Loons since October 2022 and only the second since May 2018.
In a match that featured Germany legend Timo Werner and Colombia international James Rodríguez, it was San Jose native Beau Leroux who kicked off the proceedings with a silky strike in the 15th minute, helping the hosts ride a one-goal lead through the first half. Shortly after halftime, Minnesota hit back with a pair of goals in four minutes—a Ronaldo Vieira own goal in the 59th minute and a close-range Tomás Chancalay finish in the 63rd minute.
Responding in a big way, the final half hour favored the hosts. San Jose exploded with three goals in seven minutes, as Jack Skahan scored his third goal of the month in the 68th minute, Beau Leroux completed his first Quakes brace in the 73rd minute, and U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team midfielder Niko Tsakiris wrapped up the onslaught with his third goal of the season.
