The Quarterfinals of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup kicked off with a pair of key matches on Tuesday evening. Orlando City SC dispatched rivals Atlanta United FC with ease, while St. Louis CITY SC advanced to the Semifinals for the first time in club history with its first-ever shootout victory against Houston Dynamo FC.
The two remaining Quarterfinal matches will stream live on Paramount+ and CBS Sports properties on Wednesday evening. CBS Sports will also provide pre- and post-match studio coverage across Paramount+ and CBS Sports Golazo Network. Following the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals will take place on Sept. 15 and 16, and the Final will take place on Oct. 21.
Orlando City SC 4 – 1 ATLANTA UNITED FC
Orlando City SC throttled rival Atlanta United FC on Tuesday evening at Inter&Co Stadium, defeating the visiting Five Stripes with a four-goal first half that equaled its largest margin of victory against its Southeastern foe. Slovenia international David Brekalo wasted no time opening the scoring, nodding in a close-range header in the fifth minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Griffin Dorsey scored his second goal against Atlanta in four days, slotting in the eventual winner in the 16th minute. 21-year-old Brazilian winger Tiago rounded out the lopsided first half with his first brace for the Lions to double the hosts’ advantage. For the final 45 minutes, Orlando sat back and absorbed the Atlanta pressure, conceding only once— an 84th-minute strike from Ivory Coast international Emmanuel Latte Lath, his first Open Cup goal. The victory confirms Orlando’s trip to the Open Cup Semifinals for the first time since 2022, when the Lions claimed their first Open Cup crown. Following the FIFA World Cup break, Orlando will take on either the Columbus Crew or New York City FC in September.
St. Louis CITY SC 2 (4) – 2 (2) Houston Dynamo FC (AET & PKs)
St. Louis CITY SC booked its ticket to the Open Cup Semifinals for the first time in club history, downing two-time champion Houston Dynamo FC on penalties—its first shootout win in club history—in front of a packed house at Energizer Park. A riveting back-and-forth contest opened with CITY SC and the Dynamo scoring quickly within a minute of each other, as St. Louis’ Marcel Hartel and Houston’s Mateusz Bogusz capitalized on sloppy defending and goalkeeping in the 10th and 11th minutes, respectively. From there, goals on either side of halftime leveled the score once more, as 30-year-old Dynamo captain Artur scored his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute and Marcel Hartel posted his third brace for CITY SC with a converted penalty kick in the 51st minute. A grueling extra time period—marked by three yellow cards and a Lawrence Ennali sending off for Houston—gave way to a penalty kick shootout. St. Louis goalkeeper Ben Lundt—forced into action following a Roman Bürki injury in the 26th minute—made two key saves in the shootout against Guilherme and Héctor Herrera, lifting CITY SC to the Semifinals for the first time. Next up, St. Louis will face either the Colorado Rapids or San Jose Earthquakes in September.
