The U.S. Men’s National Team collected three points in convincing fashion Friday night at Los Angeles Stadium with a dominant 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the Group D opener at FIFA World Cup 2026 in an energetic and historic night for the tournament co-host.
The other two nations in the group, Australia and Türkiye, faced each other late Saturday night in Canada at BC Place Vancouver. Goals from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe led the Socceroos to a solid 2-0 clean sheet over the UEFA Playoff Path C winners.
This means that the very next match in the group pits the current top two teams in the table against each other. USA and Australia have earned three points apiece, sit in first and second, respectively, and will face each other on Friday, June 19 at Seattle Stadium.
The four-goal performance for the U.S. on Friday night, the most goals the U.S. has ever scored in a FIFA World Cup match, has proven impactful as the U.S. enters its second group stage match No. 1 in the table due to goal differential.
With all four teams with one match played, here are the standings heading into the second matchday in Group D:
