VENICE, Calif. (June 21, 2026) – In the second match of today’s exciting doubleheader of U.S. Soccer on the Beach presented by Volkswagen, Gabriel Silveira tallied a brace but the U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team fell 5-3 to a physical and defensively sound Trinidad and Tobago team.
The match concluded an energetic doubleheader in beautiful Venice Beach in a first-of-its-kind event, just steps away from U.S. Soccer House, presented by Bank of America. The U.S. Women’s Beach Soccer National Team kicked off the doubleheader with a resolute 12-3 win earlier in the day.
FIRST PERIOD
The U.S. opened the scoring with a driven shot from Antonio Chavez off a corner kick sent in from Tanner Akol from the right corner flag. Chavez’s shot took one bounce and traveled high, hitting the underside of the crossbar before bouncing downward to cross the goal line and make it 1-0 for the U.S. five minutes into the match.
After starting the match with a couple cracks at goal from his own half, Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Jabari Gray connected on one from long distance with a well-driven strike to equalize the match.
The two sides traded a couple near-chances ahead of goal, which made the match feel like one team was bound to break through. It appeared that Trinidad and Tobago scored just before the break, but the ball did not cross the goal line before the clock ran out, so the exciting opening period ended level 1-1.
SECOND PERIOD
To start the second period, U.S. head coach made a change at goalkeeper, replacing starter Brian Shushkovsky with Austin Collier.
Trinidad and Tobago picked up where they left off and scored in the first seven seconds of the second period, a fast-moving goal out of the kickoff from Omri Baird. The visitors extended their lead less than 30 seconds later with a goal from Rondell Paul to surge ahead 3-1 less than one minute into the second period.
The intensity and physicality between the two teams picked up in the second period. Following a foul, the U.S. was awarded a free kick from about half-field. Nick Perera delivered the shot, but Gray made the block to prevent the chance for the Americans. Perera later attempted a nice half-volley from long distance. The shot hit his foot well but sailed beyond the frame for a Trinidad and Tobago goal kick.
The visitors extended their lead to make it 4-1 following a throw-in. Omri Baird headed the ball down to secure his brace on the day at 5:20.
The Americans saw a few more chances before the close of the period, including a close-range header from captain Nico Perera. U.S. head coach Marcelo Mendes was shown a yellow card after the two benches exchanged words, and the U.S. went into the third period trailing 4-1.
THIRD PERIOD
To start the third period, Mendes switched his goalkeepers again, and Shushkovsky returned to the sand. Trailing, the U.S. pressed to cut into its deficit. Early in the period Nick Perera leaned back to attempt a volley that rolled just wide of frame.
At 8:11, the U.S. pulled one goal back. Sasha Karlov drew a foul about eight yards from goal. Gabriel Silveira took the kick, driving a low shot into the lower right corner of the net, and the U.S. was only behind 4-2.
Ricardo Carlvalho of the U.S. was shown a red card, so U.S. played with one man down for the remaining two minutes of the match. Baird secured his hat trick at 6:19, and at 2:00 the U.S. pulled one goal back on a beautiful bicycle kick from Silveira that bounced into the lower, right side of the net, But the splendid late goal wasn’t quite enough for the U.S. to catch the visitors, and the Americans fell 5-3.
